A gift card only redeems on an account set to the same country as the card. Most Nigerian gamers use US accounts, so a US gift card is the safe default. Check the country in your account settings before buying, and match the card region to it — a US code will not redeem on a UK account, and vice versa.
The single most common reason a gift card "doesn’t work" is a region mismatch. Gift card codes are region-locked: a US code only redeems on a US account. Before you buy, it pays to know which region your account is set to.
How to check your account region
- PlayStation: Settings → Account → Country/Region (set when the account was created and not easily changed).
- Steam: your store country shows at checkout and in Account details.
- Apple: Settings → your name → Media & Purchases → View Account → Country/Region.
- Google Play: the Play Store country is set from where the account was created and used.
Which region to buy
- US account → buy a US gift card. This is the most common setup for Nigerian players and the safest default.
- UK account → buy a UK gift card (available for PlayStation).
- Creating a new account? Choose the US store — it has the widest gift-card availability from Nigeria.
